Why I had to say Good-bye

Last week was horribly depressing.  I’m still in mourning over the thought of having to say good-bye. For now anyway.

After spending time picking what remained of this year’s tomatoes and opening up the garden gate to let the chickens forage through it I headed inside, into the kitchen, preparing to say my good-bye.

I managed to hold back tears as I dressed my little friend up and prepared him for his send-off.

I laid him out gently on a white, fluffy bed, generously covering him well, sparing none of the important details.

He looked so good all dressed up.

But it was time.  I had to say good-bye.

Why? I’ll tell you why…

Bacon Lettuce Tomato Sandwich

Because no self-respecting tomato grower would ever dare make a BLT with a tomato that wasn’t picked fresh and in season. It’s just plain wrong. Think mealy, tasteless, pale, store-bought tomatoes. Sounds so tasty, right?

So I said good-bye. Right after I made a second BLT and devoured it just as fast as the first one. ~A
