Old Gems #4

Depression era mindset: “Buy it with thought,  Cook it with care,  Serve just enough, Save what will keep, Eat what will spoil, Home grown is best”  All sound thinking in my opinion.

Today’s Old Gems

This sandwich actually sounds pretty good. It appears to be an open-faced sandwich.  I would probably make mine with two slices of bread just to keep it all together.

Now this recipe sounds like it was a version of “Thousand Island Dressing.”  Popular back then, even on sandwiches apparently.  I typed out the recipe for better reading if anyone would like to give it a try. It was someone’s Mother’s recipe, and a mother’s recipes must be real “keepers” if someone bothered to save them, right? Enjoy! ~A
